A Message on Labor Day from Fr. Corapi

As we celebrate the secular holiday of “Labor Day” it’s helpful to reflect on the dignity of human labor. The Church holds work, “labor”, in great esteem. Those who work for a living exercise an essential element of human existence and in so doing support their families, contribute to society in their own unique way, and show forth the dignity of both the labor and the laborer.

I have seen so many examples in the course of my life of how working can truly make a person feel good about themselves. I would go so far as to say that if we don’t work in some productive manner it is more difficult to feel good about ourselves. Even those who are challenged in some way through physical or emotional injuries or disabilities must engage in some form of activity that can benefit others if they are to fully experience their own human dignity. One of the greatest ways to overcome emotional challenges such as depression and anxiety is to work in earnest at some productive enterprise. Feed the hungry, house the homeless, visit the sick, give encouragement to the suffering. In so doing you will begin to feel better, having concentrated on something other than your own problems.

Taking away a human being’s incentive to work is one of the most destructive things we can do to a man or woman. It is essential that all individuals that are able to function productively should do so. Children should be shown very early in life the joys and fulfillment of hard work and the benefits it can bring. The elderly should be encouraged to do something productive as well, whether actual labor or labor related to a hobby or craft. Work keeps the mind, the body, and the soul engaged, remembering that prayer is the highest and most productive work of all.

May God bless all of the labor and all the laborers in a most abundant way.

SINCE YOU ASKED...
Your Questions Answered by Fr. John Corapi

The highly anticipated series is finally available! Consisting of nineteen hours and almost 250 questions answered by Father John Corapi, this new series was video taped at events all over the United States.

“Educational, Inspirational, Entertaining, Refreshing, Courageous, So easy to understand, and It’s about time!”—These are just a few of the comments we have received from previews of this exciting new series, almost two years in the making.

Hundreds and hundreds of man-hours were spent traveling to events throughout the United States, on videography, editing, arranging, and producing in order to bring you this best ever collection of your questions answered by Fr. John Corapi.

Almost 19 full hours of DVD video or CD audio indexed for ease of study, this is the greatest collection of general questions asked of Fr. John Corapi at several conferences and parishes throughout the United States. This is not a compilation of past question and answer formats. This is all new footage shot during Father’s travels in the year 2007.

We have no doubt that you will learn a great deal from Fr. Corapi’s responses to these candid, honest, and intelligent questions. You will find that you are learning while enjoying Father’s clear, simple, humorous, and direct way of conveying the Church’s teaching. He even gives his personal opinion in a few cases, answering personal questions from a few folks that might not have been the most supportive or friendly folks. “That doesn’t matter,” Father says. “I’ve always believed a question is a sign of intelligence, a sign you want to know something.” Even in the rare cases where a question or two might have been a sign of something less than intelligence, Fr. John gives them all they asked for and more.

Some of these questions are hard-nosed and definitely controversial. Fr. Corapi has never been accused of being subtle. When he began this project, Father told his team of co-workers, “This will make us a lot of friends, and a lot of enemies. It’ll prove we’re doing something right!”

What's On Weekly Wisdom With Fr. John Corapi

The Queenship of Mary

Now Playing: August 23rd: "Homily for the Feast of the Queenship of Mary"--In this episode of Weekly Wisdom Fr. Corapi speaks about the meaning of this celebration, its theological dimensions, and its practical and historical significance. In antiquity the queen of the kingdom was the mother of the king, not his wife. Is Mary really the Queen of Heaven and Earth? Why?

St. Peter and Christ with the Key

Now Playing: August 30th: "Seven Keys to the Spiritual Life"--This “Weekly Wisdom” segment is a spiritual conference on “Seven Keys to the Spiritual Life” that Fr. Corapi considers of paramount importance. Anyone serious about advancing in prayer and the spiritual life must have these elements in play in their life. These are: 1. Humility 2. Detachment 3. Simplicity 4. Trust 5. Silence 6. A relationship with the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Spirit which then brings forth oneness with the Lord Jesus Christ 7. Love of the Cross of Christ. When these elements are lived with fidelity and zeal then we become who we are: members of the Body of Christ.

ST.

Coming Soon: September 6th: "Homily for the First Friday of September 2008"--Father John is preaching a series of First Friday homilies in a local parish for the remainder of 2008. Father will give the same homily from the First Friday Mass that he gives to attending parishioners. He preaches on the devotion of the First Fridays and why they are so relevant today. Father speaks on making the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus along with nine First Friday Masses in a row, and the 12 promises Jesus gave to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque for us if we perform this devotion with the proper disposition.

Triumph of the Holy Cross

Coming Soon: September 13th: "Homily for the Feast of the Triumph of the Holy Cross"--“The Cross is the crossroads where all roads cross,” and “To be lifted up on the  Cross in Christ is to be set at the pinnacle of human possibilities.” These two lines from Fr. Corapi’s doctoral thesis in dogmatic theology at the University of Navarre summarize the Church’s teaching on the meaning of Christian suffering. This will be a most informative and inspirational presentation, especially for anyone familiar with suffering.

Padre Pio

Coming Soon: September 20th: "St. Pio and the Priesthood"--In this episode of Weekly Wisdom Fr. Corapi explores the life of St. Pio of Pietralcina as it relates to the priesthood. Jesus the High Priest offers the sacrifice of himself in atonement for the sins of the world. The ministerial priest, taken up in Christ, must likewise be one who offers the Sacrifice (the holy Mass) and also be sacrificed through, with, and in Jesus the High Priest and perfect Victim. There can be no authentic priesthood without the sacrificial dimension of love. St. Pio is a perfect example of Christ the Priest and Victim.
